🇬🇧 Alexandre Antonelli, President of the Antonelli Foundations and Co-leader of the ARAÇÁ Project, is currently participating in COP28 in DUBAI. During the event, he presented the Global Biodiversity Standard, a pioneering restoration certificate system in development, on behalf of Botanic Gardens Conservation International and its partners. Throughout his time at COP28, Antonelli engaged in the Biodiversity Credits workshop and participated in insightful discussions with scientists, politicians, and indigenous communities, addressing climate change issues and emphasizing the critical need to preserve our forests.
The ARAÇÁ project expresses its concern about the numerous instances of climate extremes and rising temperatures observed over the past decade. We hope that these occurrences serve as compelling evidence to take decisive action to mitigate the escalation of atmospheric CO2 and global warming. Central to this effort is the imperative for comprehensive forest protection and reforestation of deforested areas.
Our primary goal is to preserve the remaining Atlantic Forest and promote reforestation initiatives to expand this vital biome. By doing so, we aim to conserve biodiversity and safeguard the crucial ecological services essential for combatting climate change.

Durante o evento, apresentou o Global Biodiversity Standard, o primeiro sistema de certificação de restauração do mundo em desenvolvimento, em nome da Botanic Gardens Conservation International e seus parceiros. Ao longo desses dias, participou também do workshop sobre Créditos de Biodiversidade e está engajado em discussões com cientistas, políticos e comunidades indígenas, abordando questões relacionadas às mudanças climáticas e ressaltando a importância de preservar nossas florestas.
Nós, do Projeto ARAÇÁ, esperança de que os numerosos episódios de extremos climáticos e elevadas temperaturas vivenciados na última década sirvam como evidência suficiente para que tomemos medidas definitivas para conter o aumento do CO2 atmosférico e o aquecimento global. Para que esse objetivo seja alcançado, a proteção integral das florestas e o reflorestamento das áreas desmatadas são fundamentais.
Nosso objetivo principal consiste em proteger a Mata Atlântica remanescente e fomentar iniciativas de reflorestamento para ampliar esse tão importante bioma. Dessa maneira, buscamos preservar a biodiversidade e os serviços ecossistêmicos essenciais para enfrentar as mudanças climáticas.
