🇬🇧 As November draws to a close, temperatures are on the rise, offering a glimpse into the upcoming summer here at ARAÇÁ. The warming weather signals the emergence of various plants, animals, and fungi that eagerly await the heat.
During a recent exploration along one of our trails near a stream, we encountered a stunning Jararaca (Bothrops jararaca) basking amidst the fallen leaves. This particular species emerges from its burrow at this time of year, capitalizing on the warmer temperatures and increased activity of its prey, typically frogs and small mammals.
Is it dangerous? Absolutely! The venom of the Jararaca is both hemorrhagic and necrotizing. In the event of a bite, immediate medical attention is crucial. The potency of the venom varies based on factors such as the amount injected, the victim's body mass, and their sensitivity to the venom.
At ARAÇÁ, we uphold a deep respect for all living beings and refrain from harming any creature solely due to its perceived danger. Instead, we advocate for responsible precautions when venturing into the forest. Wearing anti-snake leggings significantly reduces the risk of snake bites, and attentiveness to one's surroundings is paramount.
It's essential to bear in mind that killing any wild animal constitutes an environmental crime. Let's coexist harmoniously with the diverse life around us while embracing measures to ensure our safety in nature.
🇧🇷 Estamos quase no final de novembro, a temperatura está subindo, e já podemos ter uma ideai de como o verão vai ser. Com o tempo quente, diferentes plantas, animais e fungos que estavam só esperando o calor começam a aparecer.
Semana passada, em uma de nossas trilhas perto de um dos riachos, encontramos essa linda Jararaca (Bothrops jararaca) descansando entre o folhedo. Essa espécie sai da toca justamente nessa época, quando as temperaturas ficam mais quentes, e há maior atividade de suas presas, geralmente sapos e pequenos mamíferos.
Mas ela é perigosa? Sim, pode ser! A sua peçonha tem poder hemorrágico e necrosanto, e o melhor é procurar assistência médica imediatamente se for picado por ela. A ação da peçonha varia de pessoa para pessoa, dependendo da quantidade de veneno injetado, massa corporal da pessoa picada e sensibilidade ao veneno.
Aqui no ARAÇÁ, respeitamos todos os seres e jamais mataríamos qualquer ser somente por ser perigoso. O melhor é tomar certos cuidados ao sair para a mata e fazer uma trilha. Usar perneiras anti cobras diminui consideravelmente o risco de ser picado. Olhar onde anda e pisa também é fundamental.
