The Southern tiger cat, scientifically known as Leopardus guttulus, is a small wild cat species native to Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. This feline is territorial and preys mostly on small mammals, birds and lizards.


Its conservation status is considered "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List. Today, the biggest threats to the southern tiger cat include habitat loss and deforestation, hunting by local people, road kills, diseases spread from domestic dogs, and the use of rodent poisoning.

O Gato-do-mato-do-sul, cientificamente conhecido como Leopardus guttulus, é um tipo de gato selvagem nativo do Brasil, Argentina e Paraguai. Esse felino possui comportamento territorial e se alimenta principalmente de pequenos mamíferos, pássaros e lagartos.


O estado de conservação dessa espécie é considerada "vulnerável" segundo a Lista Vermelha da IUCN. Suas maiores ameaças hoje, são a perda do seu habitat, caça, atropelamento, doenças transmitidas por animais domésticos e envenenamento.
